Appearance Standards

Sapp Bros. deals with customers with varying cultural backgrounds and tastes. Each customer who stops at our business is our guest. They make our existence possible and pay our wages. If we displease our customers, they might not return; and without customers, there is no business. For this reason, anything that could be considered offensive or distracting is not in the best interest of Sapp Bros. and will not be permitted. What ever your position by be, it is one of the most important elements of Sapp Bros. to have the “Sapp Bros. Image”. The purpose of these standards is to present a consistent image to our customers.
General Standards
UNIFORMS. You are required to have on the proper uniform at all times. It should be clean, pressed and buttoned appropriately with your name tag on before clocking in. You are required to have on a proper uniform at all times for your department.
NAME TAGS. We are a first name organization. All employees are issued a name tag which should be worn with pride in an upright, readable position. They should always be visible and should be transferred to the outermost layer of clothing you are wearing.
PINS AND DECORATIONS. The only pin or decoration that can be worn on your uniform is your name tag or any tag or pin that has been approved by the company.
UNDERGARMENTS. Employees are required to wear appropriate undergarments at all times. This includes socks.
FINGERNAILS. Clean, presentable fingernails are a must. Fingernails should be of a reasonable length.
TATTOOS. Conspicuous tattoos on front line employees are not considered to be in the best interest of Sapp Bros. Truck Stops and are unacceptable. A tattoo is considered conspicuous if it is visible. If you are not a front line employee, reasonable and non offensive tattoos may be allowed.
DEODORANT. Due to close contact with customers and other employees, the use of an antiperspirant or deodorant is required. For the same reasons, the use of strong, heavy scents or fragrances is discouraged.
HATS. Hats are inappropriate attire unless they are a specific part of your uniform. If the hat is a part of your uniform, the bill is to be worn to the front at all times.
SUNGLASSES. Sunglasses are a block to interpersonal communication with our customers and should be avoided if possible.
CHEWING GUM. Chewing gum is prohibited while on duty.
Additional Standard for Men
HAIR. You must have a neat cut tapered to not extend beyond or cover the ears. Hair must not be longer than collar length and must be balanced proportionally. The Sapp Bros. look does not include extremes in dyeing, bleaching or coloring. Sideburns should be neatly trimmed and may be permitted to extend to the bottom of the earlobe following their natural contour. You may choose to grow facial hair only once every 60 days and it must conform to your locations specifications depending on your position within the company. Wigs, hairpieces, and hair extensions (hair weaving) are unacceptable unless for medical purposes. Appropriate hair confinement will be used in food service areas as required by law.
JEWELRY. Small rings, class rings, wedding bands, conservative tie clips, and a conservative business-style watch are permitted. Bracelets are not permitted. The wearing of earrings or like ornaments in eyebrows, nose, tongue, etc. is prohibited. Medical alert jewelry is acceptable.
Additional Standard for Women
HAIR. Hair should be neatly combed and arranged and cannot fall forward over the face while working. The Sapp Bros. look does not include extremes in dyeing, bleaching or coloring. Wigs, hair pieces, and hair extensions (hair weaving) are unacceptable unless for medical/cosmetic purposes. Appropriate hair confinement will be used in food service areas as required by law.
JEWELRY. Small rings, class rings, wedding sets, earrings and a conservative, business style watch are permitted. Medical alert jewelry is permitted. You may wear one small ring per finger. A small ring is defined as same size or smaller than a women’s class ring. The shape and number of earrings must be in good taste. The wearing of earrings or like ornaments in eyebrows, nose, tongue, etc. is prohibited.
MAKE UP. It is our policy to encourage the use of make up to enhance natural features and create a fresh, natural appearance. Extreme use of any kind of make up is prohibited.
UNDERGARMENTS. Women are required to wear appropriate undergarments at times including underwear, slip, bra, nylons, or socks.
